July, 1998	SDHIMA Newsletter	For a small donation, the HIM Club does the clerical work for the state health information management association twice each year.
August, 1998	Relay for Life	The Club wasn't able to provide walkers for the American Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life event, but we did make a donation to aid the cause.
September 17, 1998	Activity Fair	To increase campus awareness of the HIM Club, we had a booth at the Activities Fair. At the booth, participants threw darts at a large drawing of a human displaying some internal anatomy -- if the thrower managed to hit an organ, candy was the reward!
September 23-25, 1998	SDHIMA meeting	The Fall South Dakota Health Information Management Association's meeting was held in Sioux Falls, with faculty and several students attending. Very interesting!
September 26, 1998	Hospital Project	Some members of the HIM Club used a Saturday afternoon to help out the health information management department of a hospital in the region. We helped to move and refile over 20,000 medical records as a part of their remodeling project.
October 3, 1998	Homecoming	The HIM Club made a float for DSU's Homecoming Parade. We didn't win a prize, but it was lots of fun!
October 6, 1998	AHIMA Convention	The American Health Information Management Association had the 1998 convention in New Orleans. It included a student forum for any students in attendance, and our club sent a denim shirt with DSU Health Information Management embroidered above the pocket. Neat doorprize for some lucky student!
October 7, 1998	Wellness Fair	Once again, the HIM Club provided "mini" medical records for participants in DSU's Wellness Fair to record the results of the tests and examinations. We also helped by performing height, weight, and body frame measurements for the participants.
October 12, 1998	Adopt-A-Highway	No classes today, so the HIM Club will use the day to pick up litter along a section of Highway 19 near Madison. After the work, we'll treat ourselves to pizza!
November 1-7, 1998	Celebrate HIM Week!	Lots of prizes, publicity, and fun!
November 24, 1998	Blood Drive at DSU	The bloodmobile took away 44 units from donations today!
December 2, 1998	Hall of Trees	After the monthly club meeting, members went to the Prairie Playhouse to decorate a Christmas tree to represent the HIM Club in the annual Hall of Trees display. It was really pretty and got us into the Christmas spirit!
January 18 and 23, 1999	Project at Central Plains Clinic	Boy, did we file papers!! Students went to Central Plains Clinic in Sioux Falls to work on a project of filing loose reports into the patient records. The facility was really happy about our work and said, "The students work had an impact on the patient care delivery process at Central Plains Clinic." We can feel good about what we did!
January 27, 1999	Spring Activity Fair	We had a booth at the Spring Activity Fair and gave out pamphlets entitled, Understanding Your Health Record, as well as brochures and information about the HIM Programs at DSU and the HIM Careers.
February 6, 1999	Project at Canby Hospital and Clinic	We went on the road once again to work on a project at a healthcare facility! This time we worked on merging records for the hospital and clinic. It involved a lot of filing and assembling of records, but we had fun too! (They even provided rolls and pizza!)
February 24 - March 1	Survival Kits	The club put together small candy sacks with a poem. These were sold on campus and at ball games.
February 27, 1999	Return to Canby	More charts were combined -- the facility was very appreciative of our help!
March 19, 1999	Blood drive	The blood mobile took away 40 pints of blood from their visit to DSU today.
March 22, 1999	HIV Speaker at DSU	We co-sponsored a speaker to talk to the DSU and Madison community about HIV.
March 26 and 27, 1999	Health Fair at Empire Mall in Sioux Falls	Worked together with HIM professionals from SDHIMA to have a booth at the Health Fair at the Empire Mall in Sioux Falls and gave out pamphlets entitled, Understanding Your Health Record, as well as brochures and information about the HIM Programs at DSU and the HIM Careers.
April 5, 1999	Technology Workshop	HIM professionals from a variety came to DSU for a one-day seminar on computer technology taught by students and faculty from DSU.
April 16-18, 1999	Club trip to Black Hills	Some of the HIM Club members and advisors traveled to Rapid City where we toured Rapid City Regional Healthcare Facility and Rapid City Animal Hospital. Interesting! (And of course, we also saw Mt. Rushmore and the Crazy Horse Monument, as well as spending some time in Deadwood!
April 24, 1999	WalkAmerica for March of Dimes	The HIM Club assisted the Business Club in their efforts to raise money for the March of Dimes. Over $175 in donations were raised by the HIM Club members and several participated in the WalkAmerica walk at Lake Herman. Fortunately, the walkers had a beautiful day!
April 25, 1999	ZimmFest	Once again, the HIM Club assisted others in raising money for a worthy cause. ZimmFest was an event held on the DSU campus with bands, carnival-like games, and food. Money raised was used to help defray medical expenses for one of DSU's students. The HIM Club was not able to participate with a booth, but did help contribute to the funds raised.
April 29, 1999	Adopt-a-highway
April 27, 1999	End of the year social banquet	We had a very nice banquet at Nicky's in Madison. Graduates and student receiving a variety of honors were recognized, and club members received participation awards. Dr. Tunheim, DSU's President, joined us for the festivities, as well as faculty and staff of the HIM Programs. Lora DeWald, M.Ed., RRA, CCS, CCS-P, was the guest speaker and we really enjoyed hearing what she had to say!
