September 12, 1996 First meeting of the school year Pizza was provided!
September 19, 1996 DSU Activities Fair HIM Club had an anatomy quiz and gave candy prizes.
September 25-27, 1996 State SDHIMA meeting in Rapid City, SD Faculty and students went in DSU's van. We donated a sweatshirt for a doorprize at the social hour.
September 28, 1996 Homecoming Parade Club members decorated a pickup and members rode in it.
October 2, 1996 Wellness Fair We made "mini medical records" for participants to record results. We also helped with the Wellness Fair by working a booth measuring height, weight, and body frame.
October 5-10, 1996 National AHIMA meeting in Orlando, Florida There was a special student "get-together" and HIM Club donated a t-shirt for a door prize. Members who went had a good time, in spite of the rain!
October 12, 1996 Relay For Life This was a community walk for cancer awareness. Several members walked or sold luminaries that were used to light the walking track. Very touching event!
October 15, 1996 Adopt-A-Highway Members picked up trash on Highway 19 near Madison -- then went out for pizza! The Respiratory Therapy Club will clean the ditch in the Spring.
October-November 1996 Project at Sacred Heart Hospital Members went down on weekends to help in the Medical Records Department at the hospital -- raised over $900 for the club!
November 4-8, 1996 National HIM Week Lots of fun activities -- gave prizes to members each day!
December 3, 1996 Blood Drive We made arrangements for the Bloodmobile to come to campus for blood donations -- 56 pints donated!
December 12, 1996 Christmas Party We had pizza and exchanged Christmas gifts. Officers for 1997 were elected.
February 6-14, 1997 CandyGrams We sold 200 CandyGram valentines and delivered them on campus!
February 1997 SDHIMA Newsletter We're working on publishing the newsletter for the state HIM association.
February 17, 1997 "FUNdamental Computer Workshop" We arranged and taught a computer workshop. About 15 participants came and we made over $500 and donated $150 to SDHIMA! It was a success--we do good work!
March 19, 1997 Raffle for limo ride, dinner for two, flowers, and cash! We're selling raffle tickets -- someone will have a terrific evening!
April 3-4, 1997 SDHIMA meeting The state meeting will be in Pierre, SD -- our state capitol. We'll be handing out a "Resume Book" -- a collection of resumes for graduating HIM students looking for jobs!
April 16, 1997 Certificate of Merit Luncheon The HIM Club was awarded the Certificate of Merit -- President's Level! Dr. Tunheim, President of DSU, attended the award luncheon to present the plaque!
April 17-19, 1997 Club Trip We toured hospitals in Omaha, Nebraska and went to the zoo and a play -- lots of fun!
April 29, 1997 Blood Drive The Bloodmobile's coming back! The turnout for the blood drive was exceptional!
April 28, 1997 Banquet We'll be having a banquet to recognize the graduates, successful assessment test-takers, officers, and others! We had a wonderful meal, as well as guest speakers! The speakers that presented at our banquet were Carol Person, RRA, and Sheila Carlon, RRA, and former Director of the Health Information Management Programs here at Dakota State University. Let's Celebrate!!!
May 2, 1997 Project at Dell Rapids Clinic Members of the HIM Club will go to the Dell Rapids Clinic for a fundraising project. It helps us to help them -- experience for the students and money for the club!
May 10, 1997 DSU's Commencement The 20th Anniversary of South Dakota's first graduating class in medical record/health information management education. Congratulations to the Classes of 1977 and 1997 and every Class in between!!!
August, 1997 SDHIMA Newsletter We worked on publishing the newsletter for the state HIM association.
August 15-16, 1997 Review Session Jeanette Linck, RRA, who is from Michigan, conducted a review session for 4 prospective RRA's and 47 prospective ART's to help them better prepare for the national examination that is held annually in October.
