Upcoming Events:

Lake County POC H1N1 Clinic:

As you may have seen from emails sent by Dorine, the Lake Country Emergency Preparedness Office is looking for volunteers for the H1N1 Clinic Wednesday, November 18th. The clinic will be open from 1 - 8 p.m. Volunteers will be needed throughout that time for Greeting and Screening, Forms Distribution, Patient Education & Forms Completion, Forms Review, and Security and Exit Education. Dorine talked to Don Thompson who works for Lake County Emergency Preparedness Office and he thought that our training in health information management would make us excellent volunteers for the clinic. This a very unique event which would be an excellent opportunity for you to apply your HIM knowledge and it would look great on your resume!!

The HIM Club is going to sponsor this event as an HIM Program activity. We would like to get a group of students together to volunteer at the clinic. As an added bonus, any students who volunteer to help at the event will get free HIM Club membership paid for the fall 2009 semester!!

If you are interested in signing up to volunteer, please RSVP back to keppens@pluto.dsu.edu by no later than Sunday, November 15th.  When you RSVP, please indicate what time you will be available to help out (example 5-7 p.m.) and the best way for you to be contacted by the clinic officials. Volunteers are needed through the time the clinic is open, so volunteer when it works for your schedule. Sarah will be calling in the list of students volunteers so they know how many students are planning to volunteer at the clinic. Please contact Sarah as soon as possible if you are interested in volunteering.

Study Nights:

Have you ever wanted help with homework for an HIM class, but wasn't sure where to turn to?? Now you have a resource available to you to get help with the coursework in your HIM classes. The HIM program has organized weekly tutor/study sessions for you to utilize to get help with HIM classes. Students taking the beginning classes can get help from upper-level students who have already taken the classes. These sessions will also be a great way for students to work on homework and study for tests with other HIM students taking same classes. Students are also encouraged to come even if they just want a quiet place to study. These sessions are geared towards HIM classes, but you are welcome to bring homework to work on for other classes. Come get help from upper-level students, work with other students from your HIM classes, or just to have a quiet place to study.

The first tutor/session will be next Monday, October 5th from 7-9 p.m. Campus students we will be meeting every Monday from 7-9 p.m. in library room 201 (at the top of the staircase). This resource is intended for all HIM program students to use as a resource. Distance students we are working on a way for you to interact with campus students via chat, discussion board, or something along those lines. Until something can be worked out, any questions or comments can be sent to keppens@pluto.dsu.edu or posted on the discussion board on the HIM program D2L site.
